Update on NEC Cup, Semester go and future Tourneys

Apologies for the lateness, and I've forgotten which day I actually attended NEC (talk about losing brain cells), but anyway. The NEC Cup in its 13th year was held in central Melbourne at Vibe Savoy Hotel on Collins, and players showed up in droves to convene in the gold gilded hall. Most were deep in their second games while others wander to go over plays or to grab lunch. I managed to receive a few particular stares while attempting to look inconspicuous with the camera, ah well. As with other years, I'm sure everyone had a grand time and there were good representations from the local clubs. SPGO members managed to attain some excellent placings in the second and third divisions (awesome job people!) and some even played against Mr Kawamura, the visiting go professional from Japan, in a simul game.

Congratulations to the winners, and we hope to see all of you again at next year's cup!

Now it's approaching swotvac and exam time, we're nearing the end of semester one and thus the end of our go meetings. Come join us for some final games on Friday 29th May. We'll be recommencing meetings next semester (stay tuned for the change in dates and rooms). SPGO committee members will also be at welcome back week and semester 2's O week.

As always, SPGO members will be heartily playing on KGS (the online go server), so consider signing up if you haven't already and joining us during the holidays. We can be found in the Australia Room or Melbourne University SPGO under Clubs.

A very exciting event is approaching Melbourne soon, this year the Australian Go Nationals will be held here and hosted by your very own Melbourne University's Students Playing Go. So definitely keep your eyes and ears open, there'll be frantic planning going into place, and hey we might even get a decent banner now.

If you wish to receive our latest news and keep updated with what's happening in the Melbourne Go scene, simply send an email to mail@spgo.org.au with a request to join our mailing list. We can also be found on Facebook, for latest events and photos.
